Week of February 3-6, 2014

Thursday we were very blessed to have had Andrea (Libby's mom) come into our room and talk with the kids about the Chinese New Year.  They all had a blast with the beautiful props that Andrea brought.  We took many pictures and I will get them posted this week.

This week our star student will be: Max
Letter of the week: Zz
Number of the week: 14
Color of the week: White

Monday- We will be talking a little bit about Groundhogs day since it is on Sunday.  Mrs. Amy will be out, so we will have Mrs. Tracy from preschool with us.

Tuesday- Nothing out of the usual.

Wednesday- Mrs. Becky will be out so we will have Ms. Rachel with us.

Thursday- We are going on a fieldtrip to CMOE (the Children's Museum of Evansville).  If you have not returned your money and permission slip please get that in as soon as possible.  Thanks!  Parents are more than welcome to join us, but you will have to meet us there.  We do not have enough room on the bus for any extras.

February tuition is due this week!

We are excited to say we are filling fast for next year.  If you know of anyone interested in having their child join us next year tell them to send in their information ASAP!  They can fill out the form online at http://www.homeforyourheartschool.blogspot.com/

We are having issues with children constantly needing to go to the restroom.  We take them at 8:45am and then they are free to go from 10:50-11:25 during recess.  If they stay full day then they go to wash their hands and have an opportunity to go at 11:25 and they go again at 1pm.  Please talk with your child so that they know they need to try and go every time we take them.  We are going to cut down on allowing them to leave the classroom to go.  If your child has an issue with this please talk to us so that we can address any issues.  We do not want children having accidents at school, but we feel it is interfering with the learning taking place.

Some children will be star student for the second time.  If it is your second time being star student we will not send home the backpack.  Please check the list in their binder to see when your child's week is.  I will also try to remind you weekly on here whose week it is.  Not everyone will get to be star student twice, it was just the luck of the draw.

January 20-24, 2014

THERE IS NO SCHOOL MONDAY-due to the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Tuesday we will be doing a few Martin Luther King Jr. things.
Wednesday and Thursday we will be working on the letter Xx, the number 12, and the color black.

PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD WEAR THE COLOR OF THE WEEK ON THURSDAY!

We started pulling some kids out for areas in which they need help and areas in which they need to be challenged.  Not all kids are pulled out  and the same kids will not necessarily be pulled out each time. Amy and I are watching to see where your kid may need extra help or where they may be bored and need extra challenges.

Morning arrivals are going VERY well!  The kids are very excited to have the freedom of walking themselves to the classroom and they are doing well with it.  We are still working hard on remembering to get out our lunches and our folders, but that will come.

If your child is returning to HFYH next year please make sure that you go online to homeforyourheartschool@blogspot.com to sign up.  January 23rd all spots will be opened up to the public.

It is the time of the year when we are all getting sick.  If your child is sick please contact Amy, myself, Nicki, or Stephanie to let us know what is going on.  We like to know what the symptoms are so that we can be watching for it in other kids as well as if there is something extra we need to do to help prevent others in the room from getting sick.

You can contact us at:
Mrs. Amy  Bonenberger- via facebook or amyhfyh@gmail.com
Mrs. Becky Arney- text to 812-454-2829.
Or call the school at 812-867-3997.

I look forward to seeing everyone Tuesday!

January 13-16

This week we will be concentrating on:
* The Letter Kk
* The number 11
* The color red

Things to remember this week:
* Beginning this week through the end of the year all pre-k parents are being asked to drop the students off at the sanctuary doors.  Please have their coats on, seat belts off, with backpack in hand.  Also, all students need to exit their vehicle from the sanctuary side.  This is a safety issue.  We do not want kids walking between cars. Mrs. Amy or I will be there to greet them.

*If you have not returned your child's report card, please send them back in their binders so that we can use the same ones for the end of the year.

* Don't forget we sent homework this weekend.

*Tuition is due.  Half day is $120 and Full day is $200.

Welcome Back!

Amy and I hope that each of you enjoyed your Christmas break!

The kids all did an amazing job during the Christmas program.  I have added some picture of our good looking kids at the end of this blog.

We are excited to announce that we will have 22 students in our class beginning Monday.  We are happy to welcome our new classmate, Millie Elliott.  I am sure that she will feel as welcome as you have made me feel!

Since the temperatures are plummeting please make sure your child has winter clothing in their bags.  Even though we are not going outside to play, we do not want to bring your child out to you in shorts or t-shirts when it is 0 degrees outside.

It is very important for all children to be on-time for school.  If not, we have a hard time getting everything accomplished.  This is also a step toward getting ready for kindergarten.  Ideally, all students would be at school at 8:30. At 8:45 they are considered late.

We will be adding a revised 2nd semester calendar to your child's binder this next week. There have been some changes due to snow days before Christmas.  This may change again if we have any additional snow days. However, we will not be adding days to the end of the year as EVSC may.

We are ready and excited to get the second half of the year going.  It is hard to believe in a few short months we will be sending these kids off to kindergarten.  That being said we will also be upping our expectations of our children.  The hallway and bathrooms will be renamed "QUIET ZONE". They will lose their stickers for being silly and/or noisy in these areas. They are aware of this change.  We talked about it before break.  We are also going to be focusing a lot more on waiting their turn, raising their hands, and being self-sufficient. These are all behaviors that will be expected in kindergarten.  Also, please start dropping the kids at the doorway outside of the hook area.  Amy or I will try to be standing there if you need to talk with us.  This is just one step towards making them more self-sufficient.

You will be receiving pre-registration forms for next year's enrollment.  If you are not going to use it please feel free to pass it onto a friend, neighbor, or relative who would want it.

You can always find information at homeforyourheartschool.blogspot.com or on the home for your heart school facebook page.  This facebook page is be invite only.  If you need to be added please message Amy Bonenberger or myself (Becky Arney).

The first MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) group will meet this Wednesday morning. Please visit the facebook page MOPS of Bluegrass UMC.

Enjoy looking at the pictures.  Hope to see everyone Monday assuming we don't get 8 inches of snow!
