Newsletter May 9-12, 2016

I can not believe this is my final blog post for the year.  I want to thank each and everyone of you for sharing your child with me this year.  They have all grown so much this year. Most know their colors, shapes, upper and lower case letters, and numbers 0-20.  Some of the kids have even begun learning their sight words and are well on their way to reading!  I am very proud of each and every one of them!  They think it is funny when I tell them that I will probably cry on Thursday at graduation because it will be the last time that I will see many of them.  Please keep me updated on how they are doing in school and in life.  I will miss them all!

This week there will be no star student!  We are going to be emptying the snack cabinet.

This week we will be reviewing  everything we have been working on this year and finishing up some end of the year projects.  Although the main topic of the week will be practicing for graduation.  However, we will also be throwing some end of the year fun in this week too!

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we will be heading over to main campus after arrival, around 8:45. Please make sure your child is here on time.

Wednesday

1.  We will be having an end of the year celebration.  This is unfortunately for the children and staff only.  There is not enough space to invite the parents as we will have 3 classes in the gym with a few bouncy houses.  Therefore, please make sure you child wears socks on Wednesday so that they may jump in the bouncy houses.

2. We will be having an end of the year pizza party.  Please send $2 in ASAP so that they can enjoy pizza with us for lunch.  I will also be providing drinks and chips to go with the pizza.

Thursday:

1. We will be walking across to main campus to watch the toddler time, jumpstart, and preschool graduation.  We will walk back after graduation is over.

2. ALL STUDENTS ARE HALF DAY ON THURSDAY! we will be dismissing at 12:30pm.  Therefore, do not send a lunch today or a backpack!  Our class will dismiss at the chapel entrance as usual.

3.  Graduation- Doors will open at 5:30pm.  Kids need to arrive by 6:00pm so that I can get them all dressed in their caps and gowns. Please bring them to me in room 1016 (the room with the green door).  Please do not put hair in a high pony tail or pig tails as the caps will not stay on their heads.  Please do not wear flip flops or "high heels" for their safety as the kids will be moving up and down risers and steps.

All bills need to paid in full before the last day of school!
Also any library books still out need to be returned.

Newsletter May 2-5, 2016

WOW! I can not believe that it is May. Only two weeks (8 days) of school left.

Star Student: Nathan

Letter: Gg

Wednesday- all parents (grandparents, aunt, or uncles if parent can not make it) are invited to Muffins with Mom/ Donuts with Dad.  8:30-9:15am in the gym.  All children will need to be walked into school this day for everyone's safety.  After breakfast the adults are invited to stay for our final chapel of the year.  The kids would love for you to come and worship and of course sing and dance with them.

I sent another tuition bill home on Thursday.  Please pay these ASAP!

The kids enjoyed our new playground a few days this week! It is so nice to have something new at the end of the year!

I forgot to send home the complimentary graduation photo of your child on Thursday.  I send everyone a photo of their child's photo via facebook or email.  If you are interested in purchasing a digital copy of it and the class picture (which I have not seen because there was a flaw in ours that are being corrected) please send in $10 on Monday and I will fill out the paperwork for you.  Again, I am so sorry for my mistake. If you ordered photos before picture day I have those as well and will be sending them home on Monday too.  I would send you a photo of those too, but Angie has those taped closed and I do not feel right about opening those without permission.  If you want to see them before Monday please just message me and I will open them and send it to you.

Upcoming Events:

Please get your child to school on time.  We are going to be practicing for graduation first thing in the morning off and on for the rest of the year.

Tuesday, May 10th- tuitions bills need to be paid in full.

Wednesday, May 11th- End of the year pizza.  I am asking that each student send in $2 between now and Monday May 9th.  We are going to order pizza for lunch to celebrate the end of the year!

Thursday, May 12th- HALF DAY FOR ALL STUDENTS!  All students will need to be picked up at noon!  The staff needs time to prepare for graduation.
For graduation the doors will open at 5:30pm.  Kids need to arrive no later than 6:00 pm.  This gives us 30 minutes to get the kids in their caps and gowns.  Girls please remember that you will need to be able to go up and down steps and risers when you are picking out your shoes.  Also, please do not have your hair in a high pony. Caps and Gowns are yours to take after graduation.  I will give you our room assignment as soon as I receive it.  This will be where you will drop off your child before and pick your child up after.

We had a blast this last week looking at different Dr. Seuss books.
We read:
1.  Fox in Socks and talked about rhyming words.
2. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and then sorted rainbow goldfish crackers, counted them, and wrote the correct number.  We also made fish with our hands.
3.  Oh the Places you will go and made hot air balloons.
4.  Green Eggs and Ham. After reading we tried "green eggs" AKA vanilla pudding colored green with a vanilla wafer in the center to look like a green fried egg.
5.  The foot book.  We traced and the kids cut out their feet and measured how big their feet were with unifix cubes.  We talked about who had the biggest and smallest feet in the class.  They then measured the hallway upstairs with their feet.
6.  The Cat in the Hat. We made thing hats.  Sorry the tape was not holding the hair on very well.
7. The Lorax- The kids painted Truffula trees.
8.  We read the Butter Battle Book and made homemade butter.  We enjoyed homemade butter and crackers for snack one day.

This week:

Monday-

Tuesday- I will out in the morning.  I will be returning by lunch time. Miss Jamie will be my sub for the morning.

Wednesday- Chapel

Thursday- Our make-up fieldtrip to the library is today!  I will be leaving early today.  Mrs. Brandy will be with the kids in the afternoon.  Tuition and Cap and Gown forms  are due today!  If you do not turn in the cap and gown form your child will not have a cap and gown for graduation.  Even if they are returning next year you need to order a cap and gown this year.  You will be able to use the same one next year.

Newsletter February 22-24, 2016

Star Student: Peyton- please bring snack for 8 kids for 4 days.

This week is a review week!  We will be reviewing the letters Hh, Oo, and Ss.

Numbers: We will be reviewing the numbers 14, 15, and 16.

Colors: We will review the colors orange, yellow, and white.

Sight words: We will be reviewing help, on, and see.  As you read with your child and you come to a word we have had as a sight word.  Have them try to figure out what the word is.  Some of the kids know them be looking at them already, some are trying to sound them out,  and some are not there at all.  It is not necessary to be reading until around Christmas of kindergarten.  I am very proud of how each of the kids in the class has been growing and improving!

We have a new North high school student who joined us this week.  Her name is Ally.  She will be with us twice a week until May.  She is helping me do some prepping of  cards for the kids rings.  She is also enjoying interacting with the kids.  She has been a great asset to me already!

Please remind anyone picking up a child at the end of the day that they have to go through the pick up line.  We have had people walking to the door to pick up children.  They will have to wait until all cars have left the pick up line before I will release the child to them from here on out.

Upcoming Events:

This Thursday, February 25th we have a dental hygienist coming in to talk with the kids about taking care of their teeth and what a dentist does.  February is Dental Health Month.

Our library fieldtrip has been rescheduled.  It will be Thursday, March 10th.  This fieldtrip is not one that we recommend parents missing work to attend.  We will get a tour of Oaklyn library, sing some songs, listen to stories, and I believe they will make an art project.

Cap and Gown order forms will be coming home on Monday.  They cost $17 for both the cap and gown.  If your child has a sibling or friend with a red Home for your heart cap and gown you will only need the tassel for $2.  This will be invoiced to your account for April whenever you return your form.  Even if your child will be returning for a second year of Pre-K they will still walk through graduation and you will be able to use the same gown next year.  We do NOT order extra cap and gowns.  If you do  not return your form by March 10th we can not guarantee that your child will have one for graduation.

Thursday, March 17th is our fieldtrip to ECS spring musical. Parents are not invited to attend this fieldtrip.  ECS pays for this fieldtrip.  We attend the performance that they put of for the school.  ECS sends us just enough tickets for the students and teachers to attend.  ECS also pay for the busses to get us there.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

The only changes that I know of this week are that I will be leaving early on Wednesday to take one of my daughters to an appointment.  Mrs. Bandy is going to be with the kids in the late afternoon.  The kids all know her and I fell very comfortable leaving them in her care.

On Thursday we did an Egg drop experiment.  The kids choice from batting, toilet paper, paper towels, construction paper, tissue paper, marshmallows,  noodles, bubble wrap, and beans. We placed a raw egg in a baggie with the object they chose.  They point was to protect the egg when it was dropped onto the floor.  The first round the kids dropped their eggs from shoulder height.  One egg broke. The second round I dropped the eggs from my shoulder height.  Only three eggs remained after this round.  The third round the kids with remaining eggs dropped them down the stair well.  At the end of the third round only Lochlyn's egg remained.  His egg was the only egg out of three classrooms that survived the drop down the stair well in a baggie.  He chose to surround his egg with marshmallows!

If you have not sent in January tuition please send it in on Monday!

If you have not sent back your child's report card please send it back in.
