Newsletter for December 14-17, 2015

Star Student: Peyton- please bring snack for 8 kids for 2 days ( Monday and Wednesday).

This week is suppose to be a review week.  We will be reviewing the letters Ff, Jj, and Kk as much as we can.

Please drop you children off by 8:45 every morning next week.  We will be walking across to the other church each  morning at 8:45.  Please  make sure they have closed toe shoes and coats.  We will practice from 9-10 each day.

Tuesday we will be having our Polar Express day after program practice.  The kids are invited to wear their pajamas to school, but they must have street shoes on.  We will be going across the street for practice and hopefully out to recess.  I do not want to be changing shoe back and forth all day.  We will be enjoying hot chocolate and cookies for snack today.

Wednesday after Program practice we will be staying at main campus to watch the Jumpstart Christmas Program.

Thursday drop off will be normal.  We will be walking over shortly after arrival.  Doors for our program will open at 9:30.  Program will begin at 10:30.  When program is over you will pick you child up from me in room 1006, which is on the left side of the sanctuary.  School is only half day for all students that day.  You will need to sign them out before you take them.  I will have a sign out sheet.  THERE IS NO NEED FOR BACKPACKS TODAY! We ask that students wear something Christmassy.  Kara, Peyton, and Nathan will have costumes on over their clothing as they have been picked to be part of the nativity.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, January 4, 2016!

Upcoming Event:

When we come back from Christmas break enrollment forms for next year will be going home.  Currently enrolled students have about 2 weeks to get their forms returned if they are thinking about returning to HFYH next year.  After that 2 weeks enrollment will open to the public.  If you get an enrollment form and are not going to use it feel free to pass it along to a friend or family member who might.  They may enroll with current students.

A great way to reinforce our sight words at home is to have the kids help read stories.  As you are reading use your finger to follow along as you read.  When you come to a sight word have them try to tell you what it is. They will pick them up more quickly when they feel like they are reading.  Also, they get excited as they are able to read more and more of the words.

Here is a list of the sight words we have done so far this year:
at, am , for, it, Jesus, me, no, so, to, we, you, is.

Please sign up for a parent teacher conference slot. I really want to sit down with an adult for each child.  I want to make sure we are all on the same page as far as what your plans are for your child for next year and what we will need to accomplish to make that happen.  To help these kids fully succeed we need to work as a team.

There is no school November 23-26th.  However, there will be parent teacher conferences on Monday the 23rd.  If you need to bring your child that is fine I will have Thanksgiving color sheets and blocks out on the carpet.  However, sometimes it makes the kids uncomfortable being there while we are talking about them.  This is completely up to you.  You know your individual child.

First Blog post (August 24-27, 2015)

This is how I choose to communicate with parents instead of sending on a paper newsletter home.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by email, Facebook, or text.

We had an amazing first week of school.  Most of us made it through the first week.  If your child is going to be absent please let me know by email, Facebook, text, or by calling HFYH School.

Star Student this week will be Colton.  Please fill out the questionnaire that I placed in this folder.  Also, send snack for 8 kids for 4 days from items listed on the approved snack list. There is a copy in your child's binder.

This week we will begin our regular educational routine.  I am still playing with our class schedule. Things did not run as smoothly as I would like.  I will update the kids binders when I have set a new schedule.

This week we will be working with the letter Aa. We will be learning to write the upper and lower case letters as well as working with the sounds that the letter Aa say.  I sent home letter bags today in their binders.  There is an instruction sheet attached to the bag.  Send them in on Monday and as soon as we have shared them in class I will send them home.

We will also be working with the number 1.  We will learn how to write the numeral 1, the word one, as well as learn how many one means.

We will be working on learning the shape of triangle.

We will be introducing our first sight word: at.  We will be working on writing at, spelling at, Using at in sentences as we speak, looking for the word at in stories.  A good way to reinforce this at home is to have them look for the sight word at while you are reading with them.

Our bible lesson this week is God created light!  We will be doing some activities with this in the classroom.  This will also be our theme for chapel time on Wednesday morning.

I am looking forward to seeing what they have chosen to put in their Aa bags this next week!

Final newsletter of the year!

I must say it is very bitter sweet that this is the last newsletter of the year. It just feels like yesterday that I was doing the very first one of the year.  I am going to be very sad to see each of these boys and girls leave HFYH school. However, I know that each and everyone one of them is more prepared for next fall than they were when I first met them.  They have each come so far in the time I have known them. Thank you for sharing them with me for the last 9 months. Each of them will leave me with a little piece of myself  going with them as each and everyone has touched my heart in one way or another.  I will remember each of them for something that will make me remember them with a smile!

This week we are going to wrapping up some things.  You will see some things come home on Monday and Tuesday that are not finished.  These are activities that they have been working on when they have finished other work.  I feel like they would be beneficial for them to come home so that they can finish them there.

There will be no star student this week.

The main focus of this week will be graduation.  We will be practicing at Main campus everyday this week.  Please drop off and pick up as usual.  We will be walking/bussing over to main campus and back.

Please go ahead and send backpacks this week.  We will be continuing to do morning work each morning.

I will probably not be giving stickers out this week.  I do not anticipate any behavioral problems since it will be a laid back week.  If something were to occur I will make sure to contact you.

Wednesday is our End of the Year Celebration.  It has been decided that it will be for the children only.  I know in years past we have invited parents, but with 80+ children the gym will be very crowded already.  We will dismiss at 12:15pm due to our party running out day a little longer.

Thursday after we practice for graduation for the final time we will be staying a main campus to watch the Toddler Time and Jumpstart classes graduate.  Since everyone is dismissing half day today Pre-K will once again wait to dismiss until 12:15.  This will give us a little more time to get the preschool parents out of the parking lot.

Thursday night- Children need to arrive at 6pm so that we can get them dressed in their caps and gowns.  At the end of graduation the children will be with me in the same place you dropped them off at.  At this point I am not sure what room we are in. I will let you know as soon as I do.  Please come and get your child from me.  This will be my final chance to tell each of them good-bye;(  Any child left behind will be taken home by Mrs. Becky!  HAHA!  Again reminder to girls hair needs to be left down or in a low ponytail in order for the caps to fit.  Also, remember the kids will be going up and down steps and risers.  Wear appropriate shoes. IF YOU HAVE ANY EXTRA TICKETS THAT YOU ARE NOT USING FOR GRADUATION PLEASE RETURN TO ME ASAP! There are other families who could use them.

I am hoping to send all the report cards and end of the year papers home during the week so that I do not have anything to pass out at graduation.

If I have forgotten anything please ask.  I am sure I will have something else to add via facebook or email this week so be aware!

Newsletter May 4-7, 2015

Star Student: Easton L. Please bring snack for 9 kids for 3 days.

Letter: Gg. This is our final letter of the year.

Sight word: go

Memory verse: Let the little children come to me. Mark 10:14.

We will be reviewing our letters, numbers, and color words.

This week was the last week for the kids to check out library books.  Please return them as soon as you have had a chance to read it with them. THANKS!

Please return all pizza money ASAP!

I am very pleased with how well most of the kids are doing with reading their teen numbers.  I am down to just one more student to evaluate for their report cards and I can say we have come a long way since I evaluated in the fall.  As I told the kids today in class. I am very excited for them because most will be headed to kindergarten in the fall and I feel that most are ready.  It is so hard to believe that the end of pre-K is just 8 school days away.  ;(

Reminders:

FYI we will be having a visitor on Monday. I just found out so kids don't know yet.  Mrs. Brandy from preschool is going to come up and observe our classroom since she is going to be moving to 1/2 day preschool next year.
If you have not paid off your account yet please do so ASAP!

Wednesday, May 6th- Muffins with Mom/Donuts with Dad 8:30-9:00 parents are invited to eat breakfast with us, meet our friends, and talk with our teacher.  9:00-9:45 or 10:00- You are invited to join us for chapel.  We will be talking about Jesus blesses the little children.  The kids are all very excited because they have picked their favorite worship songs to share with you that day. Also, we will be celebrating birthdays for the remainder of the school year and all of our summer birthdays!

May 14th- Half day for all children!  6:30 graduation- kids need to arrive 6:00. Girls remember hair needs to be down or the pony needs to be low enough so we can get the caps on.  Also, we will be on risers so heels are discouraged. I would hate for someone to fall or twist and ankle.

We are going to spend Monday finishing up talking about Easter.  I am amazed at how much the kids have picked up and remembered about the last supper, death, and resurrection of Christ.  Just ask them they will tell you.  Mrs. Nicki sent home eggs with each child yesterday.  Talk with your child about it. We are also going to end our day Monday by doing some experiments with Peeps!  I am sure we are all going to have fun.

Newsletter for March 30-April 2, 2015

Enjoy your spring break we are out of school until Monday, March 30th. This will be our last break of the school year.  I just counted it up and can hardly believe we only have 28 days of school left before graduation!  We still have lots to do so please send your child to school if they are not sick.  At the same time I am beginning to get a little sad that these children that you have shared with me soon will be leaving me.  I have become very accustomed to seeing their faces everyday.  They will take a small part of me with them when they go.

When we return we will be having a review week to go over the letters, numbers, and sight words that we have already learned.

Sophia will be our star student. Please bring snack for 9 kids for 2 days.  I have many snacks stock piled so we are going to using up these items on the other days.

I am very impressed with how well your children are doing with not only learning their letters, numbers, and letter sounds, but many are beginning to sound out words as I put them on the dry erase board.  They are also doing much better with their months of the year and days of the week.

We will be learning the color word orange when we return.  This will be the last of the color words.

Our memory verse will be: Forgive others, as God forgives you. Luke 6:37.

Being that we are a church based school and this week will be holy week our class is going to talking a lot about the true meaning of Easter.  We will do a few fun Easter things, but mostly will be about the story of Easter from the Bible.

I am giving the kids more responsibility. If you notice that they are missing a sticker they have earned it for the day, but have not remembered to bring me their binder to receive it.  If they have lost their sticker I will find their binder to leave a note in it.

I am also going to be a lot stricter on talking. This is just one more step for kindergarten!

Please wash hands and count out 100 of the items with your child and place in a Ziploc bag.  We are going to place all the items in one bowl to make a trail  mix for snack on Thursday.  Examples of items are cheezits, pretzels, animal crackers, teddy grahams, raisins, m & m's, skittles, marshmallows, goldfish, dried fruit chips, etc.  The teachers have many fun things planned for this day. I look forward to celebrating with your child!

Newsletter for March 9-12, 2015

Although I like to sit in my nice warm house with my kids and watch the beautiful snow blanket everything.  I am most definitely ready for warmer weather and some sunshine.   Praying this is the last of the white stuff we will be seeing until December.

Cooper is star student this week: Send snack for 2 days for 9 kids.  We have some left since we did not go all week. We will use those snacks the other 2 days.

Our letter this week is going to be Bb. Please work with your child on recognizing the difference between the lower case b and lower case d.  We worked on d this last week.  This is always a hard thing for them to get.  Just ask them what letter it is when you see it on signs or in books.  I will teach them that the lower case b faces the same way as the upper case B.  I also talked with them about how the lower case d looks like a c with a line.

We will be working with the number 18.  We are still having a lot of problems recognizing the teen numbers.  We are going to working on sequencing numbers 1-18 this week.

Our sight word this week will be big.

Our color this week will be blue.  If your child has blue please have them wear it on Thursday.

Memory verse: It's smart to be patient. Proverbs 14:29

Tuition payments are due by Tuesday if you have not already paid!

March 12- Cap and Gown forms are due back!  We are wanting to order before Spring break!

March 17th- St. Patrick's Day. Please have your child wear green.  However, we will not allow pinching at school if they do not wear green.  We will be on the look out for Leprechauns.  Last year we had a sneaky little visitor in our building.

100th day of school is coming up!  I will let you know when as soon as I get back to school and can look at my calendar.  I am lost right now with all the snow days we have had. I am fairly certain it will be the week of March 16-19.   I will be asking each student to bring in 100 of something to make our special snack mix. You choose what. (Example: 100 raisins, 100 animal crackers, 100 cheezits, 100 M&M's, 100 goldfish, etc.) Do not send in the whole box or bag.  I want you and your child to sit down and count out 100 and put them into a bag.

Our letter this week is Dd.

Our number is 17.

Our sight word: did

Our color is purple.  Please have the kids wear purple on Thursday if they have it!

In chapel this week our topic is Thankfulness.  Our memory verse is : We thank you, Our God, and praise you. 1 Chronicles 29:13.

Please work with your child at home on writing their last names.  We have been talking a little bit about last names, but we will begin working on writing first and last names on our papers probably after spring break.

Newsletter February 16-19

Star Student this week is Delaney.

Letter: Ss
Number:16
sight word:see
Color: white
Memory Verse: Love God and love each other. 1 John 4:21

We will be in school on Monday.  This is a makeup day for a Monday we had a snow day on in November.

Monday-  We will spend Monday talking about Presidents Lincoln and Washington a little bit since it is President's Day.

Please continue to work with your child at home on both naming the teen numbers as well as telling you the numbers that make up that number in order (for example: 15 is a 1 and a 5. Not a 5 and a 1).

We are going to begin working on writing our first and last names.  Most have their first names but we are going to fine tune those and begin working on writing last names.

We did not have Library today due to our Valentine party. We will have library next week as scheduled.

I was very happy with how the kids conducted themselves on Wednesday when I had to be out of the classroom.  I was told by the teacher that subbed for me, Mrs. Stephanie, as well as Mrs. Nicki how well the boys and girls in my class did in my absence.  I thanked them for that today at school and told them how proud I was of them for making good decisions in my absence.

Enrollment packets went out this week for next year.  If  you should have and did not receive one please let me know.

Mrs. Becky

Newsletter February 9-13, 2015

Bryer is our star student this week!

Our letter this week will be Oo.

Our number this week is 15.  Please work with your child on recognizing numbers 10-15 this week.  We are having a lot of trouble with the teens.  For example instead of saying fourteen for 14 they some are saying a 1 and a 4.  Others are completely clueless.

Our color this week will be pink.  If they own something pink please have them wear it on Thursday.  I understand this can be very difficult for the boys.

Our sight word this week is on.

Our memory verse is  Hard work is worthwhile. As I am typing this I realized I forgot to see who knew the bible verse for this week.  I am extremely sorry!!  This week in chapel we will be learning about excellence.

Today I was able to retest everyone that was at school on their letters again. I will send each of you an email with how your child is doing with uppercase and lowercase recognition.  It is very important that they have this under their belt before I begin testing on what sound each letter makes after Spring break.  Kindergarten moves very quickly.  It is important to know all of this because by Christmas your child will be reading books.

Don't forget the kids and I will be having a Valentine's party in our room on Thursday.  If your child wishes to bring in Valentine's for his/her friends please do not address who the Valentine goes to only have them write their name as who it is from.  Don't forget to create a Valentine holder so that your child will have something to bring their Valentine's home in.  I can not wait to see what you create!

I sent home a homework calendar at the beginning of the week.  If your child completes all the tasks and you initial that they have done them they will receive a treat at the end of the month!  Again all homework is voluntary, but does help give them a great foundation for kindergarten!

Upcoming Events:

February 26- Our fieldtrip to Cmoe.  I know the kids are looking forward to this.  I am sure they would love for you to come and play and learn with them.

March 2-12- Turoni's Pizza Fundraiser

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Newsletter for February 2-5, 2015

Sophia is our star student this week!  Please bring snack for 9 kids for 4 days.

Our letter of the week will be Zz.  We are  not doing letter bags this week since all I could think of to put in them would be a zebra and a zipper.

Our number this week 14.  Please work with recognizing the numbers 11, 12, 13, and 14 at home too.  The kids are all having a hard time with these.  Most of them can do it only if they have a calendar or number chart to count up to the number on.  However, they need to be able to recognize them by just looking.

Our color this week is brown.  Since the kids all know their colors we will be spending more time trying to learn how to spell and read the word brown.

Our sight word this week is run.  We will be working on writing and reading this word.  I can only hope we can get outside and actually run on day next week.  Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Memory verse this week is I have chosen the way of truth. Psalms 119:30.  The kids did a great job learning their memory verse from last week so they will be coming home
Monday with a special surprise!  In chapel this week we will be talking about truthfulness.

I am going to try out another homework format.  I am sending a calendar home on Monday.  Each day Monday-Friday has an activity to be completed.  They are all fairly simple. They can complete each day as is on the calendar or as you have time to do it.  The letters, numbers, sight words, and colors are assigned to the weeks that we will be working on them in class. As they compete the task simply initial the box competed.  When all tasks have been completed return to school and I will have a treat for the kids.

Monday- We will be spending the day celebrating Groundhog's Day.  We will discuss what Groundhog's Day is all about.

Thursday- Wear Brown to school if you have it!
We will be having a public open house from 9-2.  I will inform the kids about this as the week goes on.  There will be adults and kids being lead on supervised tours of our building.  They may come right into our classrooms while we are working so that they can see our school in action.  If you know of anyone interested in seeing HFYH school tell them about Thursday.  They do not need to call and make an appointment for a tour someone will help them whenever they get here.

Tuition is due this week!

Upcoming Events:

February 12th- We will be having a Valentine party in our classroom with kids only.  I am sorry but our room is just not big enough to house the kids as well as the parents.  I sent a homework assignment home today.  I am asking that you help your child make their own container to hold their valentines in.  Please return this by February 9th.  Also, if your child's wants to bring in Valentines for their friends they may do that.  We will pass them out during our party.  It is not mandatory for them to do this. Do not fill out who the Valentine is for.  Only have your child write their name in the from spot.  This will be a great opportunity for them to practice writing their names.  Not putting who they are to helps make passing out a lot quicker.

February 16th- Presidents Day!  HFYH pre-k will be in session.  Is was scheduled as a day off, but we will be following EVSC and using this as our snow make-up day from our snow day in November.

February 26th- We will be heading to CMoe for our next fieldtrip.  The kids always have a blast at this fieldtrip.   I know the kids would love for you to come and play and learn with us.  Parents will need to drive separately and pay for themselves and siblings upon arriving.  We are asking that you arrive a little earlier than us.

Newletter for January 26-29, 2015

Our star student this week will be Easton H.  Please provide snack for 4 days for 9 kids.  He may bring show and tell if he wishes.

This week we will be reviewing the letters Kk, Xx, and Hh.

We will also be reviewing numbers 0-13.

Memory verse: Show proper respect to everyone.  1 Peter 6:18

This week in chapel we will be talking about Courtesy.

Since it is a review week I we are going to begin working on when it is appropriate to talk or not, how to raise our hands for answer a question, and how to take care of themselves and be less worried about tattling on others. These are all things that I really dislike covering, but very necessary for success in kindergarten.

I have had some issues with children not getting their class work done in time for recess. I was having them work on it instead of recess.  However, the more I think about it the more I realize that they really need recess.  Therefore, if they are not able to get their arrival done in the 20 minutes or their center work done in the 30-45 minutes allotted then they will be losing their stickers and I will be sending it home for homework. Some of the reasons that papers are not getting done are because we are talking instead of working (which I said we will be working on this week), playing with materials instead of using them correctly, daydreaming,  worrying about what other children are doing, or they are flying through it to get done them I make them redo if I know they are definitely more capable.

Again, I do not want to be mean but I would rather give them this taste of it now since I know them pretty well as opposed to it beginning at the start of kindergarten and the kids think that their teacher does not like them.

If you have not turned in you enrollment for next year please send it in first thing Monday morning.  We open registration to the public on Monday.  We want to assure that you have a spot but can not do so after Monday.

The kids are so excited that they are being dropped off like "big kids".  They are doing an amazing job of walking up to our room, putting their things away and getting started with their day!  I am beyond proud of how well they are doing!  I love seeing their faces as they come up the steps with big smiles on their faces.

Since I do not see each of you everyday now if there is ever a concern or question please email, facebook, call me, or put a note in their binders.  I do not want to lose communication between school and home.  It is very important for the success of these kids!

January 5-8, 2015

I hope that everyone had a nice Christmas and New Years!  I hope everyone has recovered from all the illnesses that were going around over break.  It is so hard to believe we are already starting the second half of the school year.  I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday morning at 8:30.

We will not have a star student this week.  I will provide snack for the kids out of what we did not open last semester.  I put a new star student calendar in each child's binder before Christmas break so that you can look and see when you are responsible for snack.

We will be working on the letter Kk, number 11, and color red this week. I forgot my notes so I do not remember what the bible verse, chapel message, or sight words are for the week.  I will update you on Monday!  Sorry, my first of many fails for the year.

Reminder that HFYH school has a new phone number.  It is 812-612-0532.  The old number will still work but it calls the church then you have to be forwarded to the school.  The new number is a direct call to the school.

We will be opening registration up for all HFYH families on January 12.  We will be sending information home in your child's binder.  If you know or are considering sending your child back to us for another year before sending them on to kindergarten please fill out the forms and send them in or talk with myself or Nicki.  In order for us to guarantee your child a spot we need your forms back before January 26th.  There are a very limited number of spots for next year with all the preschool kids that will be coming up to pre-k.

On January 26th we will open registration up to the public.

On February 5th we will be having open house.  Possible parents will be allowed into the building for supervised tours this day.  I will be talking with the kids about this closer to this date so that they know that there may be parents as well as kids walking in and out of our classroom while on supervised tours with Stephanie and Nicki so that they can see our school in action.  Our day will run as normal as possible.
